We just spend a hellish couple of hours with the dogs huddled in my mother's room waiting to get into the bathroom because of tornado warnings all around. A funnel cloud was sighted a county over, but not here, thankfully. It skated past us.

I hate that feeling of helplessness. On top of that, Neil had gone out with my brother, so Mom and I were alone, trying to figure out how we'd protect the dogs as well as ourselves, and wondering what they'd have to drive through to get back.

It seems to have passed now, and Neil got home. I went out to watch the storm, slipped on the steps, and have a giant bruise on my ass cheek. The lightning was pretty, but it's pretty small consolation.

Today without Spike was awful. But thunder used to scare him so badly, and he didn't have to sit through it.

Spikey died.

The vet told us that he had suffered a major stroke and possibly had another one this morning. His eyes were moving side to side non stop, and he would no longer walk.

We came in and we held him while they gave him a large dose of anesthetic. He slipped away very quickly. We said goodbye.

It hurts terribly.

Yesterday, Spike started acting strangely. He would walk in circles, and his eyes would move side-to-side rapidly. And he would fall. And he puked a couple of times.

We thought he just had a spell, and it went away for the night, so we left in the morning to help out on the campaign. He had another spell this morning, but it went away again. Then it happened again about midday, so we left the campaign and took him for an emergency vet appointment.

The possibilities stand thusly: tumor on the brain stem, stroke, severe inner ear infection, meningitis. None are necessarily a death sentence, but we're hoping for the ear infection as it's the least disastrous.

I'm fucking terrified. We had to leave him at the vet's office overnight on an IV and steroids.

I voted! Then we went by the county Obama office. I gave them money, bought a yard sign and a bumper sticker. And then Neil and I signed up to help them canvass and make phone calls. I'm really excited about it.

Firstly, for the little fat-babies, I shall be going to RTD's house and kicking him in the nuts.

Secondly... There was Rose.

I knew she was coming, but I didn't realize it would be so soon. I'm not sure what they're going to do with her. My hope is that she's grown up, and that she's not here just to pick up where they left off. I'm thinking that she must've taken up with TW of the parallel earth. Or perhaps parallel Doctor - someone I'm really hoping we get to meet. And I'm hoping he's in another form (perhaps his eighth).

I made my first donation to the Obama campaign today when I got paid. I wish he were further to the left, but I like him. They wanted to know my employer and occupation - I wonder why?

So, a plane kinda crashed up the street about a quarter mile from my house. I was at work, and apparently my brother was hoovering, so no one heard it happen. It's like three houses down from one my grandmother owns.

There's a big hole in Janice Drive. That really sucks.

God, I love Ferris Bueller's Day off. "It's a little childish and stupid, but then, so is high school." It's better than sleep.

Dogs are mine tomorrow, meaning anything from a 6:30 AM start. Day after that, I start the training for that job. So I don't really wanna sleep tonight. It's easier to stay up.

Visited a trailer graveyard today. Lots of fascinating stuff to photograph. No bloody memory card in my camera. Maybe go back tomorrow.

Massive photography dump

I got a digital SLR for Christmas. It came with three kickass different zoom lenses, a bunch of filters, tripods, things like that. I'm still learning to use it. I've been playing with it, and here's what I've got. This is the artsy stuff. I'll post the pet and personal pictures in a different post later (though I've got to say, I'm pretty pleased with those art-wise as well).

Some abandoned stuff. Starting with this gorgeous 7-bedroom, 2 story house beside of the bowling alley in Mount Airy. My mother tells me that a school friend of hers, called Benny, grew up in this house.

The owner tells me that he's been trying to sell it for nearly $300,00. He believes the land has commercial potential. There are two houses on the lot, long since disused, both of which he plans to demolish. The door on this one is perpetually open, so I was able to enter. Judging by the old coffee cups and porno scattered about, so have a lot of people.

I manipulated the colour on this one, and couldn't decide which I liked best. Have both, starting with the original:

I found a discarded big pincher in my hermit crab tank. I went digging for the body, and instead, I found two molting hermit crabs, one of them in progress. I put them in iso, but I should never have dug them up - I may have just killed them both.

They're my two tiny ones. Poor little babies
